chickencam
I am interested because mine is so out of tune when she bok-boks after egg laying and if anything upsets her which is quite often. Looking ahead in time to when we have to get more hens we would like more Light Sussex because they are dual purpose and lay really good eggs. The noise thing would be an issue though because we live in a sub-urban area.
OwenLdn
Gosh yes! Susie is the noisiest out of the lot of mine! When she lays here eggs- she lets the whole world know! I used to hear people describe their hens singing an ‘I laid an Egg’ song- but this is pretty much a deafening roar rather than a song! She goes on until I go out and tell her off for shouting! God knows how long she goes on for during the week when im not there! Perhaps others have a quieter bird? But Susie is one of the tamest and is top bird in my little flock. Barkisland
My Light Sussex isn't noisy at all, just a quiet bok bokking as she pootles about, she doesn't even make an egg announcement
moochoo
My light sussex is gobby! An amazing egg announcer and general chatterer. I love it though.
chickencam
Gobby that's right Mine is anything but tame she gets her knickers in a knot at the slightest thing. If I should dare to try to touch her she makes a right hoo hah
Tulip
My Chilli rarely makes an egg announcement - but when she alarm calls, my goodness! Her BOOOOOOOK!!! is a bit strangled at the end!
Sky
My Light Sussex is actually the quietest one of the bunch My Speckledy one is the worse
meezers
My light sussex is the noisiest when announcing an egg - the bluebelle comes a close second, they are the only 2 we can hear squawking when we are inside at the front of the house or half the village away- doesn't bother us though, we think it's funny ! speckled hen
Both Daisy and Dora are very loud!! They definately announce egg delivery! Mind you Henny and Penny are loud as well so I think they compete, I can hear them in the house, they are saying mum I've laid you an egg so bring on the corn
mostin
My light sussex is a very quiet girl, except when I get new hens and then she shouts for about 2 weeks . She doesn't egg announce either .
LJ's Chooks
Maisie is just the noisiest ever and gets in a pickle if you disturb her or upset her. This morning she was particularly upset over something, not sure what.... one of her feathers out of place probably!!! she's a bit precious. She's not a pure breed but a hybrid LS... perhaps that has something to do with the volume???
chickencam
Looks like the majority of them are pretty loud then with the odd exception to prove the rule
