What do you clean your eglu with & moving the eglu

Recommended Posts

Just wondered what most people used to clean their eglu with, so far I have just washed with water and a brush, but wondered if there was some cleaning fluid that I should be using? I have only had the chooks a few days so havnt really had too much mess to clean up. Also can I ask how often do I need to move my eglu if it is on grass, as so far I have been moving it every couple of days to try and preserve some grass. However I am worried about the stress on the clips on the run, I have an extension and it seems to be quite a struggle to move it and already the clips looked stressed!

I use Ecover washing up liquid and an old washing up brush (or my power washer on rarer occasions!). I think some people use Poultry Shield but I've just got a pet safe spray that I use for particularly hard to shift pooey bits :vom::lol: .

I didn't move my eglu and run, except to dig over the run area, as it was on a permament site but the clips survived 18 months.

I would recommend using Poultry Shield as it's also meant to help with eradicating lice and mites.

It might also make sense to permanently site the run - we did so with bricks to line it and pavers pressed down on the skirt outside the run - no fox ever dug under that!
