integrating new chickens

Recommended Posts

We have 2 new young chickens (Amber lees) which we need to integrate to share an Eglu with the 2 older Gingernut rangers - which we have had for around 20 months. The older chickens are till not happy with new ones, even though they've had a few days to get used to them now.

We were wondering if anyone had any good tips?

It is quite alarming when the older ones peck at the younger ones and don't get on. The young ones are relatively passive. Will the older ones settle down, and how long will it take on average?

Any advice?

There is information here that is helpful and I think that there are some useful replies on the thread about "at the end of my tether."

I have certainly found these tips helpful although my new two are still being bullied. Others may well give more expereinced advice!!

I am on week 3 of introducing 2 to 6 older girls. They are allowed together for a small portion of the day and there's still bullying going on!! The new girls spend alot of time on the perches, it's like they are playing 'off ground touch' :? So it'll be a few more weeks for me

From what i've read on here the general advise is go sloooooooooooooooowly... and all will be fine :D

Help..... we got two new girls late fri nite, and they were fine sleeping that nite, when i let them out on sat morn ,things were not to bad tho we did try and give them some space by free ranging them on and of all day, sunday was much the same, Matilda PP is being a nightmear, with one of the new girls more than the other :? , Millie, is a Silver link she is being kept from the food and water and when she ventures down gets chased right back to bed!!.. Lily seems to be bothered less by her. Matilda is pulling feathers out, and is even going in to the house and chasing her out :( ... there will be "Ooops, word censored!"ody at home for most of the day tomorro so have decided to put the new girls in the small run right in front of the large one... Question , Am i going backwards by doing this :?: .. when i get home i will bring them together again... when they go to bed you would never no there is a problem... Help... advice please.... oh would it be good to get a bumper bit :?: , If so where, cos need it asap :(
