Eglu Mark 1 and Eglu Mark 2

Recommended Posts

Ask them about the base under the poo tray because that's opem, or has mesh in mk1's. The mk 1 doors are smaller aswell.

Thanks - it's definately a MK2 and I've just picked it up :D

Just need to order some new roosting bars (thanks to ubereglu for pointing out they are back in the shop) and a shade then wait for Costwold Chickens to get some new stock in!

I only ever intended to have two chickens, but here I am ready to get two more and wondering if the OH will notice if I accidentally buy 3

3 WILL get me into trouble - but what's he going to do once they're home and looking all cute!

The eglu is in pretty good condition considering its 3 or 4 years old, the roosting bars need to go, but that's no problem. My original girls started shouting at the tops of their voices when I moved it into the back garden so I hope they behave when their new sisters arrive!

I ordered my Mark 2 in May 2005 but there was a huge waiting list and I didn't get it until 13 July 2005. I remember people who had bought one of the last Mark 1 eglus just a couple of months earlier feeling more than a little fed up.

The only modifications to the Mark 2 since then that I know about are the plastic roosting bars, better shade, and two square pieces of extra skirt to stop foxes digging in near the sides of the Eglu.

If you are not troubled by foxes, you won't need to buy those squares -- but their absence means it is an older Mark 2, which could help people with dating.

I do think people should supply a photograph of what they are actually selling, rather than one belonging to someone else (and possibly enhanced) of what it looked like when it was brand new.

When you see a MkI and MkII side-by-side the difference is quite striking.

This is a Mark I

and this is a Mark II

The door on the MkI is much smaller, and the shape of the egg-port is also quite different. As was noted earlier in the thread, the MkI has a mesh bottom to the coop, whereas the MkII has a solid bottom (you just just see light coming through in the MkI picture above).

Cheers

Andrew
