Lewis
I saw a picture of some egg boxes on the internet the other day made out of a big sheet of card instead of the papier mache mulch stuff. Has anyone else seen them or know where I can get them from? Also, is it possible to make your own egg boxes somehow? I was thinking you'd use the paper and card from the recycling box and make papier mache and put it into a mould or press, but I can only see industrial machines online. Can anyone help ? ubereglu
Ooh, I've not seen them, can you find the picture again?
Lewis
No, thats the thing It was brown card and folded up to make a box with a lid (the same as McDonalds burger boxes ) and then it had the dividers on the inside, I think they were glued in. ubereglu
Oh, I think I know what you mean, Basically a box with dividers in, which act as a compartment for each egg, like the old boxes they used to use before the new cartons.
Lewis
Maybe I didn't know they existed let alone before these new cartons. I still can't find a mould for egg boxes, only what to make with them Apparently you can make the papier mache paste with all your shredded paper, leave it to soak in water and then use a hand blender. Then you paste it into a mould and leave it in the heat to dry. I can only find moulds for figures of people, hollow boxes and things like that though, no egg boxes
Scottie
These are made out of card but are 'vintage' - is that the sort of thing you mean? http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=22288830 Sheila
Lewis
They're similar, these ones weren't as deep as that and only held 6 eggs. The lid was also in the middle like the egg cartons and not on the top + looked more modern. It really was like a McDonalds burger box, thats how they closed aswell, just with dividers in similar to your link. I really wish I'd saved the picture now Still can't find a mould for the paste, but I've discovered in Manchester they can make egg boxes out of chicken feathers and wrapping paper from turkey feathers!! TOMWARDFARM
I haven't tried this surely you can make a mould using china eggs? or even hardboiled eggs?
Lewis
I haven't tried this surely you can make a mould using china eggs? or even hardboiled eggs? I could have a go, but what do I use? The ones I've seen on t'internet are made out of plaster. I might have a go at making some card egg boxes in the summer and see how they turn out
Kalu
Can you use an egg box lined with cling film or foil then a layer of paper mache on top until it drys, lift it off and hey presto? hmmm am sure there is a flaw in this plan but may be worth a try? Lewis
I'll give it a go in a few weeks after exams + things are all over
