Has anyone else noticed their girls have a been a lot sleepier in the warmer weather? Normally after free ranging when they go back into the eglu run my girls are still busy scratching around searching for food and treats, but since the weather has been warmer they just love to sun bathing, sit around and have a good'ol dust bath!

I know what you mean. Our two new girls are especially affected by the warm weather and are quite happy to find themselves a shady corner to veg out into. The oldies still scratch around a lot when they are not doing their, "dead chicken" impression in front of my back door!

My girls are not keen on this free ranging lark I let them out and they initially seem overjoyed, but after half an hour or so they take themselves back inside the run. They don't seem to like the warmer weather much either.

i got my 3 girls over a week ago and as a first time chicken owner i think im worrying a bit much- can chickens overheat? im so worried about them in this weather !

mine love being out and about, and if it's too hot they go under my bushes in the shade

My girls love this warmer weather and just chilling out in their own flowerbed that they use for dusbathing and sunbathing.

If you've got a small run, like the Omlet eglu or cube run and your girls are really feeling the heat, drape a wet sheet over the run. As the water evaporates, it lowers the temperature inside the "tent" by several degrees and keeps the girlies cooler.
