craftyhunnypie
There is a magazine starter kit at the mo called Lets crochet. It's £7.99 though I think - but you get wool & crochet hook - plus instructions to make various things, including a cute cupcake. I learnt off Youtube, as you can stop, start & pause the videos. Word of warning though - Americans call their stitches different. They say single crochet, it means double crochet. They say double crochet, it means treble. Good for future patterns. But if you are following the videos step by step - you won't make any mistakes. I made a round mat, a heart mat & an amigurumi cherry in no time! Granny squares are fun to make & grow quickly! Good luck - it's fun! Emma.x
Cooks
I thought I would make granny squares and sew them together for blankets for the residents at the local retirement home. IF I can crochet well enough.

Cooks
I have a wool shop in the next village I will pop in when I get a mo, or raid my mums cupboards, whichever comes first whilst I practice I will choose the cheapest I had a bag of brand new balls of eyelash wall (a carrier bag full) but thats not exactly crochet wool IMO so it is winging it's way to Janty for her craft group when I can get it to her. The carboot up the road did used to sell wool as well sometimes so I might potter up there tomorrow as the Aldi is the other side of town and we dont have a wilkinsons closeby . Thanks for your help everyone, you are great, wait till I drop a stitch or something and post pictures telling me how to sort it..
Snowy
Thats the beauty of crochet, you can't drop stitches! (well you can, but only ever one at a time!) I'm always pulling my work back and reworking sections. Can't do that with knitting - I once pulled the wrong needle when knitting socks and dropped all 20 stitches from one section I nearly cried
Cooks
well I phoned my mum (as you do) and she said she can teach me squares as thats the only thing she knows how to crochet herself..
Snowy
well I phoned my mum (as you do) and she said she can teach me squares as thats the only thing she knows how to crochet herself.. I think that is where we all start - the stitches are pretty much the same whatever you do, so once you've mastered the square, there ain't much more to it! Cooks
well that's good to know!.. mind you I cannot knit for toffee, I end up with more stitches than I start with mind you it was fiddly wool.
