Nicola O
Just went out to put the girls back in the run and couldn't find Bertha. Eventuallly found her under a bush, shoo'd her out and OMG she's covered in blood . I went into panic mode, there was blood on the right side of her face and beak, down her neck and right side, and under her belly. On checking her over I noticed that the blood was on the surface of the feathers - not coming through from a wound - and then saw her right foot. She's managed to rip a toe nail off which has bled quite a lot. All the blood seems to have come from her scratching and preening herself with that foot. PHEW, I've never felt so relieved. I've wiped as much blood off her feathers as possible, sprayed her foot with gentian violet and given her a drop of rescue remedy, and she's taken herself off into the cube looking all subdued and sorry for herself. Hopefully she'll be feeling better in the morning. Nicola.

Chickvic
What a shock - glad you found the source of the blood though. Hope it heals soon for her, like ANH said it sounds painful.

Nicola O
What a fright you must have got . I did let out a rather strangulated shriek when I saw her but was SO relieved when I realised it was her toe and nothing more seriuos. But still, it must really sting, poor girlie. Egluntyne
If it starts to bleed again, rub it with a little soap. For some reason it stops it.
