eggalp Posted June 5, 2009 Share Posted June 5, 2009 Hi everyone, Some of you may have read that Grey has been off for a while - no eggs, hunched, not eating much, sloppy yolky poos etc. She has been on Baytril since monday and im not sure she's much better, wouldn't eat anything tonight except a cherry tomato. The vet didn't know what was wrong - she said it could be old age?? She's a bluebell and is 22 months old - is this old for a bluebell - im not relly sure how old she should get?? I have noticed another new symptom - whenever i can tempt her to eat anything i can hear a gurgling noise after she has swallowed - not sure if its coming from her throat or her tummy? It sounds a bit like trapped air. What could this be? this wasn't happening when i took her to the vets. I made a mistake tonight by reading a friends book 'Avoid the Vet'. Grey's poos have gone almost illuminous green - in the book it says green poos are almost always a sign that the hen will die......... i wish i hadn't read that book Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

eggalp Posted June 5, 2009 Author Share Posted June 5, 2009 yes i have wormed her with flubenvet about two weeks ago, for five days - i recently read it should be seven days, though but am unsure about doing it again so soon. i wish i knew what was wrong........... eggalp Posted June 11, 2009 Author Share Posted June 11, 2009 phew.......(she breathes a massive sigh of relief) i am pleased to report that grey is not ill - she is moulting! I did suspect this maybe a week ago as she did start to lose one or two feathers but nothing significant. After a week on Baytril i was convinced she was getting worse, and after reading on here how it can supress their appetite i decided to stop giving it to her. Soon after she was back to eating and drinking again and much more lively. So she wasn't ill at all! She hasn't laid for ages and looked depressed and ill but she was eating until i gave her the Baytril - then she stopped. I was convinced she was dying but is now very healthy and enjoying my garden like she used to - she is just half naked! I have never experienced a moult before and i am so excited as her new feathers (although very small at the mo) look to be the most fab dark blue colour - cant wait for her transformation!! weyhey!! im just so glad that she is not ill, and im feeding her up on tuna for a treat at tea time!
