Poo picking/Daily routine

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Our chooks have woodchip in their run and we just rake it over every time we let them out in the morning but wen the chooks poo in the run, sometimes there will be leftover corn or something in the run so they peck and scratch for it whick also helps th poo turn and disappear!! :lol: If I were you i would try woodchip in the run- it is sooo easy- plus you never need to change it because the chooks poo gets mixed in and keeps it staying fresh!! Ok you might need to change it every year or so, we have had our chooks for over a year now and we just put fresh woodchip over the top of the normal woodchip and that only happens about once a year!! :lol::!:

Hope this helps :clap::dance:

:wall: hi there,

I use a garden rake to collect it all up and them put it on the berry plants they love it! or in the compost bin.

Normally collect in every few day, also you may want to try putting some hay in the collection tray as it is easy to keep it clean.

good luck

If you're using hay please stop, hay is really bad for chickens as it can cause respiratory diseases.

I use newspaper in the droppings tray and shredded paper in the nestbox, then they're in a woodchip run with paving slabs underneath so I can scrub it out easily.

Thanks everyone,

I'm using auboise in the run on slabs, but when my convertor comes it will on part grass part slabs with auboise.

So do rake it all up every morning, poo pick it then rake it back over the run? then change complete run every 6weeks?

I also use paper in bottom of poo tray and straw in nesting box.

Thank you

My run is on earth ( when they first arrived it was on grass!!) and I have hemcore in there. To be honest, I don't poo pick very often at all because the hemcore (and aubiose is similar) just seems to absorb it all. If there is a particularly big clump of poo that is accessible then I will shovel that out. Once the converter is on, it is pretty difficult to get any of the bits towards the eglu end of the run in any event.

Every 6 to 8 weeks I shift it, put down garden lime and stalosan and rake up all the old stuff and put down new hemcore
