4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

Following on from my topic describing our new Cube experiences I wondered if anyone has one with a 3m run (standard run plus two 1m extensions) and can say if it is still easy to move about on the wheels.

I've moved the 2m run (std +1) ithout any problems, you just need to remember to stand at the wire run end not at the back of the cube.

 

I would imagine it's a bit trrickier with 3m, but not impossible.

Mine isn't that long, but if you engage the wheel and get someone to steer the front, you ought to be OK. I wouldn't do it too often though as the length of the run will put undue pressure on the structure.

 

Could you just leave it in one place?

Yes straining the run panels is what I was trying to avoid... hence my concern.

 

Our way of keeping the bantams is for them to be in the run all the while but about every other morning we move the cube/run onto fresh grass.

Why not just have a permanent plot like lots of us do? When the grass wears down, just replace it with Aubiose (hemp bedding) and use some plastic lawn edging to provide kickboards.

It just seems a shame as we have a large grass area not to get them out on a fresh patch every few days. It's all quite level so easy for the wheels. I may think of a mod that clamps a broom handle or similar down each side so at least the load is spread over the panels a bit more.

I have just moved my cube which has the standard run plus 1 extension by myself - well with the help of my 5 year old! - for the first time and was pleasantly suprised at how easy it was. With a bit of help I would have thought an added extension would be fine.

I used to have two cubes with three metres runs. To move them I used to do the wheeling and get hubby and son to support the end of the run. It is do-able.
