nigama
I received my lovely chooks on Tuesday this week. So far they have not gone into the Eglu house at all. Can you advise if I should try and put them in, as did try this day one at night and they rushed out again in a flap. They seem to be pacing round and round the run and looking in but not actually going in, its pretty dark now so not sure what to do. Obviously I cannot shut them in the house itself until they go in and stay there for more than a second. Does this come to them on their own? Any advice would be appreicated. Thanks! Redwing
Try putting a torch in the Eglu, when its dark they should go towards the light, if they stay in then you can shut the door and retrieve the torch through the eggport door
Scramble
Welcome to the forum On my first night of chickens one went straight in and put herself to bed, the other flew up on the grub and started roosting on it. I shined a torch by the eglu door, I think the light attracts them , I lifted the madam off and she walked towards the torch and into the eglu, then I shut the door pronto They go in by themselves now ever since Good Luck, hope that helps. Egluntyne
You could try nudging them in from the door end of the run with a broom. They will soon get the hang of it.
Yorkshire Pudding
You could try nudging them in from the door end of the run with a broom. They will soon get the hang of it. I used a soft flat mop/duster thingy, with the handle taped to a broom to extend it. It was very cold at the time so they needed to go to bed, so there we were in the dark at the bottom of the garden shoving the chickens into the Eglu. Thank goodness our garden isn't overlooked We only had to do it for a couple of nights thank goodness.
Jewels
Hi, I also did the torch trick when I got my girls last summer. I just put it inside the cube shining upwards, they did pace about for about half an hour then went in. I then took the torch out via the egg door. We did it again the next couple of evenings after that they were fine. It does seem to work so give it a try.
