-sarahjayne
I'm so excited. We have a big pet carrier to fit 3 hens but we're using it for two, we put straw in the bottom. We also have a cardboard box with many holes and again straw. Will this be okay? What do we do with them once we get home, straight in the run or in the house? Sorry i'm new to chickens thanks for your help. Edited June 14, 2009 by Guest
quickcluck
Oh how exciting for you! I bet you can't wait to get going, have you got to go far? How many girls are you getting? If your pet carrier isn't covered i'd take something to throw over it as they will snooze in the dark on the journey home! People do all sorts of things when they can them home. personally I just put them in the run, they have always found their way to bed when it's time... Good luck, dont forget the pics! I'm getting four and i've already named them! I've been excited for so long. I'll add pics later. yaaaaaaay chickens

-sarahjayne
I got my new girls. They are so prettty the lady said to leave them in the house overnight so they can settle in and then let them out tomorrow morning. When we got them, the bluebelle, warren/isa brown and the black rock were fine getting into the boxes to be taken home, little fuss. However the other black rock made a terrible screeching noise, she is healthy as we checked but shes incredibly vocal. When we put her in the house at home the others were all in first and went with no fuss whatsoever but she flapped about flying all over the place. I know shes had alot of stress moving etc but will this change and will she calm down? Any advice to help her settle in better? I dont want any of my chooks to be sad
Redwing
Brilliant, congratulations Sarah As its still early in the day and if the house is not quite a big one I would let them in to the run, if the run is secure they arent going to go anywhere and the worst that will happen is that you have to show them where the bedroom is when it gets dark If one is stressed out it can't be fun for the others being cooped up with her
-sarahjayne
the house is quite big, it houses 10 chickens and we have 4. I'll see how it goes, if i hear noises then i'll be sure to go and check on them :] A picture of 2 of the girls: Rhonda + Evie http://s46.photobucket.com/albums/f129/sazzykiins/?action=view¤t=chickens004.jpg
Redwing
If there is plenty of space I expect they will be ok then. They look very sweet, congratulations
quickcluck
I'm glad they are home!!! yay for you... did you let them out? It would have been too much for me to bring them home and not spend the entire day watching them!!!
-sarahjayne
Yes i waited patiently for 2 hours, but after that the suspense was killing me and i had to let them out. The first one out was Martha the bluebelle, she eats so much, and shes actually a little chubby already, i'll have to watch her.. Then came Lottie the black rock, she has a full comb + bright waxy wattles so she'll be laying soon i think? ( Btw, her comb flops over to one side.. is this alright? ) Then came Rhonda the tiny little Isa brown, shes being bullied a bit by the others but i think she'll be okay And then theres evie the one who had the hard time and was stressed but now is absolotuley fine i love my hens very much, even after just one day.
