Helly Welly
Why has Ruby, my oldest hen and head of the flock, developed spurs? I thought only cockerals had spurs. She is definitely a girl, by the way
Janty
My He/She has spurs...huge ones. He/She (aka Tinsel) has recently had to go to live with my in-laws as she has started crowing.

Redwing
I think in the absence of a cockerel hens can get spurs Sometimes an older one will go full on and start to crow too I think Janty had one like that cross posted sorry!
Helly Welly
I never knew this about chickens, you learn something new every day!! Ruby is still laying so fingers crossed she doesn't start crowing yet She tends to be the quietest actually.
Janty
He/She never really crowed until I hen sat in the Easter holidays. She had made funny, faint cockerel sounding noises when we first rescued her but then nothing. My friend brought her girls round at Easter and He/She went mad. Egluntyne
My late lamented Artemis Fowl had a magnificent set of spurs.
