GeorgieB
I've just adopted another 5 ex-batts and noticed that a couple of them haven't had their nails clipped before coming home with us and look very long. The hens are mostly on soft ground so I don't think they will wear down quickly. I haven't noticed any walking trouble but will the long nails make it uncomfortable for them to walk? Stupid question perhaps but should I buy chicken nail clippers or will normal human ones do?
Lewis
I think human ones would be too small, you could try and get some dog nail clippers. Be careful that you don't cut the quick because it ill cause a lot of bleeding. If its not causing them any discomfort you may not need to do them. saracook31
If they're not having trouble walking they'll probably get shorter when they're out and about s"Ooops, word censored!"ing around. If they do make things awkward, I used dog nail clippers on mine, quick and easy to use! But as already said, mind the quick, just leave them a little longer than it is, better safe than sorry & they'll soon grind down a bit... GeorgieB
Thanks for the replies. As they seem ok walking around I'll leave them for now then and see how they go.
Sarahsausage
One of my ex-batts hadn't had her nails clipped much and they wore down in time so I wouldn't worry too much
