my cockerel is scared of the hens

Recommended Posts

i wrote on here a little while ago about a hen mounting others who iam sure is now a cockerel as his feathers are now starting to change and he is still mounting the ladies if he can get near them, the problem is he bottom of the pecking order and is really scared if they go anywhere near him.

im sure he should be a lot more confident around them by now as hes six months old and still doesnt crow, im a bit confused by his behaviour to be honest and as soon as they look at him he runs away.

the only ones he is not so affraid of are my little mille fleurs and he mounts them if he can but as soon as they can they will chase him away.

my big bruiser ex batts have only got to look at him and hes gone.

im a little confused !!! :?

I had a cockerel who was under the thumb (thumb? Do I mean claw?) of the hens until about 25 weeks, and then suddenly he got his full share of testosterone and he was boss.

Enjoy the current situation while you can. He may prove too much for both you and the hens later (mine did).

hello,

just thought i would update, hes still not crowing bless him and is still terrified of the ladies, and when he does finally manage to pin down one of the girls the others all pile in on him and remove him, poor little chap its no fun being a big strapping fella when even all the tiny mille fleurs are bossing you around.

thankyou all for your replys x x x x

I'm sure he'll get himself sorted out soon.

My Bertie was so much under the hen's control that he only has one wattle as he was pecked by the older girls, however now, at a year old, he is definately the boss, but won't eat until his girls have fed, and will show them where the food is. He also likes to make new bedding in the egg port 'smell' right before the girls are allowed to lay!
