koo2cat
Hi there, last weekend my husband and I went away for the weekend and my sister came up to look after our three children and the hens! She has 2 Border Terriers which came with her. We all thought the hens would be safe in their run, but unfortunately the dogs ran up to the fence, spooked two of the chickens who stupidly flew over the top of the fence and were attacked by the dogs . I didnt hold out much hope for one of them as it sustained a deep wound on its back and the other had two small puncture wounds on its back. Both chickens lost lots of feathers around their tail area. I took both hens to the vets on Monday morning thinking one would have to be put to sleep but she said if she was eating and drinking she should make a full recovery given some TLC. They are on antibiotics and pain killers which I administer twice daily and I am having to bathe the badly injured hen twice a day and put on antiseptic cream. All a bit of a performance but worth it if the hens make a full recovery . We have had to rig up temporary accomodation for the injured hens using a large cat transport box and some Omlet netting which we have put alongside the existing run so that the other hens can see the poorly ones. It isn't ideal and we are having to bring the hens into the house at night in the cat box. So...... does anyone have an eglu that I can hire for the next month or so until the poorly girls are better? I did look at buying one on ebay but they are quite expensive second hand. I live in the West Midlands. Any help would be much appreciated!

koo2cat
Thank you all for being so kind and helpful! A very kind lady is lending me her spare eglu and she doesn't live too far from us so sending my husband to collect on Monday. My two poorly girls saw the vet again this morning and she is really pleased with their progress and they seem much better today despite the driving rain we have had so fingers crossed for a complete recovery!
