One of my ex batts has her eye completely closed.

We've bathed in with warm water but I can't get the eye to open.

I'm not squeamish so I've had a "good go at prising the eye open" with my fingertips, without succss.

There does not appear to be any damage around the eye.

The other eye is completely normal. ???

I would continue with warm water or saline bathing to gently soften what is probably discharge that is keeping the eye sealed closed.

She could have scratched the eye or got a foreign body in it.

 

You can use Infected Eye drops on Chickens, although it is *not licensed for use on poultry in UK......always supposing that you can get the eye open to administer it.

 

It might mean a trip to the vet if the eye remains swollen and closed.

On eof mine gets this on occasions - she's a Japanese bantam and low to the ground - I bathe it with lukewarm, black tea and it soon sorts itself out.

If no success with the bathing I would definitely recommend a trip to the vet Clash. Our tiny hen lost her sight in one eye as an result of an infection (inexperienced vet mis-diagnosed )

my chicken had a cloudy/swollen eye and I it was shut she looked at us sideways on and I was more concerned she would get pecked at by the others

I got some chloramphenicol(antibiotic ) eyedrops **Not licensed for use on poultry in UK you can buy it over the counter and put it in twice a day..just dropped it on and it is now perfectly fine. Keep the drops in the fridge..

 

I dont know if she had scratched it?? but just get it from your local chemists(it use to be POM)I get lots of bits from my chemists for my horses too cheaper than vets..
