HELP!

My garden stinks! I have my four girls free ranging in a fair size area of my garden. The eglu is cleaned at least twice a week. Droppings are raked weekly. Food is often mixed with garlic powder but still the garden pongs! Is there anything i can spray/spread to take the nasty niff away?!?!?

Thanks in advance!

Hi

I have 5 girls in a 4m x 1m cube run, they free range for about 4 hours a day in the summer and we really don't notice any significant whiffs.

We use Bokashi Bran and Garlic Powder in their feed as these are recommended to be good for reducing smells. And in the run I use Easi bed which dries the poos really quickly.

We poo pick the poo trays and the run at least once a day sometimes twice. At the weekends we rake the run over throughly and sprinkle Stalosan F down, and spinkle some in the poo trays too along with Red Mite powder.

Hope tha helps, must admit the smell was one of the things that I was dreading when we first got the girls and I would hate it if they did smell. Hope you find a solution.

:)

What do you use in your cube/eglu? I find aubiose is the best thing for keeping smells down, that and liberal sprinklings of red mite powder, spritzing with diluted citronella and tea tree oil. That and regular poo picking, bokashi bran and garlic powder. Also helps to keep them as dry as possible. A bit of rain seems to make everything worse :?

I have 14 in a normal sized back garden and can honestly say it is manageable :D

I use bokashi bran given in their food, sprinkled in the droppings tray as this seems to solidify things up a little (but then saying that they are having a few runny poos at the moment - maybe change in weather??) and I pick up the poo from the garden twice a day.

I notice a 'farm yard' kind of smell near the front of the run but other than that I can't smell anything. I'm going to try some garlic powder and the oils that some of the forum members talk about just to sweeten things up.

Its hard when it's summer because of the heat. We poo pick the run every day and I use my garden sprayer with my water/citronella oil & lavender oil in to spray the run area and around the garden if need be. Also in this weather I make sure I spray any poos up as soon as I see them on the lawn, this keeps the smell down & keeps away the flies.
