If anyone sees Bill Gates

Recommended Posts

Could they please mention I am VERY annoyed with him.

Given my choice I'd still be using Wordperfect 6, Lotus 123, Dataease and Pagemaker but flippin Gates has foisted is increasingly useles software upon us. Office 2007 reminds me of the first versions of Office for Windows - they were pants. We all wanted to stick with DOS and our superior software - indeed we did for a while.

Access 2007 is a nightmare - it thinks I want to do everything using a daft wizard. But I've finally set up a a simple database and written a simple query. I have a date field in my table and it's in the UK date format. Its in my query in the UK date format.

In my mail merge WORD has turned the flaming date around - this will confuse my customers no end as they have now got bookings for 7th November instead of 11th July!!!

Somebody WHACK him hard with their laptop if he is passing...

I know what you mean! Office 2007 sucks! But he retired from Microsoft a few year ago....

I know but they still follow his vision and philosophy. I used to show his retirement video as a starter - must dig that one out again.

Actually I thought of a solution. I have, in full working order, a Compaq 386 laptop which I'm sure has all those lovely old programs on. I may go retro! But will it synch with my N97???

I have completely ditched all microsoft software, I just got sick of being falsely accused of piracy by Microsoft or having to resort to it due to the rip off prices, not to mention the ongoing virus issues to worry about.

I stumbled upon Linux Ubuntu quite by accident really and was so impressed I switched and I have never regretted it.

Most of the available software is as good as if not better than microsofts, with the exception of games but I can live with that.

I originally resisted changing because i couldn't find a suitable CAD package for Linux but I have now, it is proprietry but tens times cheaper than the likes of Autocad.

I am not saying that the world of computing with Linux is trouble free but I like it and it does seem to be getting better and easier to use.

Have you tried Open Office? It is available for Windows and can save in MS office format and is very similar in operation.

Kev.

I use open office a) as windows is awful b) on principle because Microsoft have a market monopoly through unfair means and c) OH does linux for a living so well all my machines magically have it installed and it's hard to even find a copy of windows anymore

You can edit pdfs with the latest open office writer, which is very useful.

I need to use MS Office to keep abreast of it for teaching. Much as I'd like to use open office it just doesn't do it - shame though as it's on my EeePC and very nice too.

Mind you that wont connect to the internet. Must get the techie boys to look at it.
