hen has laid ?internal organ!

Recommended Posts

Hi, can anyone help me? Have had two hens for two years. One of them has not laid an egg in months. She laid some soft eggs for weeks and then gave up entirely. Today she has passed what looks like some kind of internal organ. It is hollow and red. Definitely not an egg and not poo. She is a bit subdued and hunched, but is still pecking around a bit. Any information? Sorry this is so gruesome but am obviously concerned and don't want her to suffer. :(

Welcome to the forum, ChickenJane :) .

Firstly, there may be no need to panic :) . Chickens often lay really strange things which look really scary or odd. They can lay something called a lash which looks like a rubbery bit of cooked chicken. I'm not sure about what you describe but you may find someone else has had something similar.

I'll see if I can find any info on the forum for you in the meantime :) .

EDIT: here's a couple of threads you could have a look at.

Hi, thanks for your help. Hen is now fine again! She even laid an egg the following morning. The question is, will she lay any more? Never mind, I am very pleased she looks happier and has been sunbathing. This is the first time I've used the forum and will definitely use it again if I need to. It does feel reassuring to know there is sympathetic help out there! :)
