My chook who is 18 months has recently developed dark purle patches on her comb and ears I understand this can happen in cold weather (but it's July!) or could be due to por circulation, she is a great layer, so i am just a bit puzzle

 

Any suggestions

Is she a Bluebelle?

 

If she is, I honeslty wouldn't worry. It seems to be a hybrid thing, as Martha has a mainly red comb but also grey patches on the top and on her wattles she has patches of grey.

She is the healthiest and happiest girl I have and a fantastic layer, I see no health problems

i also have a bluebell with a grey patchy comb, its got darker as she's got older. I think its quite common for bluebells to have a grey comb so i wouldn't worry either

wot they said - my bluebelle is 2 and a half now, and her comb is virtually all dark, but she's in great fettle and still my best layer!

Yes she is a Bluebelle, I had no idea this was a breed feature.......she is such a good layer, but such a chunky girl, I swear everything she eats just makes her chubbier

I had been worried she had a heart problem...........really I wouldn't have been surprised, due to her magnificent size

hey, no worries

My Bluebelle is certainly very chunky too

But she lays lots of eggs

I've not got a Bluebelle, so others may be right, but purple combs can sometimes be related to heart/respiratory problems.
