Can I bumper bit a 12/13 weeker?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Well saffy my new Cream Leg bar has become a walking feather buffet for her room mate, Brandy the Buff Orp. The silly thing will quite happily stand there and let Brandy pluck her

We have been using the Net-tex anti peck spay which smells something awful (people are avoiding me at work cos I got it on me last night  ) but this morning Brandy was still plucking, admittedly not as enthusiastically as before but plucking Saf none the less!

SO.........my question is.......would it hurt her beak growth to put a bit on her at 12/13 weeks of age?

The other option is to put Brandy in with the big girls as they are happily free ranging together but then that will leave Saffy bald and without her friend :(

Sha! I am shocked......the thought of having to get Saffy some friends hadn`t even entered my mind!:lol:

And no, :? Gin was teasing me pretending to be broody......I think she just wanted a bit of me time so chose to hang out in Brady and Saf's (purple eglu) for two or so hours...she did lay me a whopper of an egg mind so I will let her off! :D

Well they have ALL been free ranging tonight and OSH seems to be keeping brandy in check so Saffy has quite a pleasant evening milling about the garden. All hell broke loose when I got the scary rake of death from the shed for a bit of a tidy up but peace (well sort of) was restored when I opened the Wiggly Wigglers delivery of LIVE meal worms.

I got my WW meal worms today & had opened the box but not the inner bag...DH was sitting next to it & suddenly piped up.................."I think we have a mouse in this box  !" My mum went a very strange colour & her expression was a picture when I turned round & said "no it's alright it's mealworms :lol::lol: !"

I hadn't had time to transfer them to a box, so had left them sealed in their paper bag, I must hoik them out of the shed tomorrow & do the transfer...I can't see mum giving any to the chooks whilst we are away next week somehow :D:whistle::D !!!!

My Orpies are proper mixes when it comes to the nestbox, they've had me going so many times & only Buffie has followed through bless her heart!

Sha x
