Wood chips getting into the doorway

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

Wondered if any of you have the same problem and if so, what you do about it.

Wood chips are getting stuck in the gap of the doorway of the Eglu and when it comes to closing the door at night the chips fall down the gap so I can't shut it. This isn't every night but when the girls have been kicking the chips around a bit (which of course they are entitled to do so) that's when the problem starts.

I am not sure if it is a better solution but.....

I rake the woodchips daily and make a point of pulling them away from the doorway.

it does involve me crawling into the eglu run though as I have a convertor on and my rake isn`t long enough....see told you it wasn`t a "better" solution

(I do have a kneeling pad placed by the side of the eglu to avoid pooing knees!)

This happens to me too  I keep a garden cane by the side of the eglu and just stick it through the top of the run and s"Ooops, word censored!"e the woodchips away, or sometimes if im in a rush i do the same as tooties and put my hand through the eggport and brush the chips away.

I did exactly that too, the garden cane golf is quite amusing as you can flick the woodchip quite a distance

I now keep the woodchip about a foot away from the door using a short handled hoe from the Eglu end

I only ever shut an Eglu door when trying to catch a chicken though otherwise they stay open

Thanks everyone.

I think I'm going to have to change the woodchip as it's become very muddy and doesn't smell very nice now. I'm debating on whether to keep the door open now as I'm quite sure the run is safe as it's pegged down very well and the skirt of the run is covered in woodchips.
