xScrunchee
Hi all, I've been awol again for some time haven't I? I have still been on here most days, just haven't bothered logging in and posting Anyway, by the end of August I will be adding 2 new girls. A bluebelle and a Light Sussex (Or light Sussex look alike). Rose, Brandee and Jasmine are all fine, although Brandee has decided that laying one or two eggs every 6-8 weeks is plenty , Rose's eggs are watery, thin shelled and pretty useless now so it's only Jasmine who is laying ok. Rose is laying soft eggs most days too, even though she also lays a thin shelled one. Of course they have limestone flour, oyster shell etc but I think Rose is just worn out. I can count the amount of days she has missed laying in over 2 years on my fingers. Bless. Also, have always wormed the girls with flubenvet every 4 months or so and every 6 months I have used Ivermectin spot on. Just decided to worm them with Panacur and guess what? They are passing worms Not very many but considering I have always wormed them, I was very shocked to see dead worms in the poo tray. I last used flubenvet about 2 months ago. Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still about, the girls are fine and we will be adding to the flock soon. Photo's will be posted-goes without saying P.S, What on earth has happened to the smilies?? The ones at the top look all fuzzy and weird!! Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome back . Nice to hear your news and that you're getting new girlies (We were all freaked out by the aliens but are totally used to them now .)
xScrunchee
LOL@ the alien smilies Can't wait to get the new girls, only wish I had more room and money so that I could get more. Plus the kids would love to hatch some eggs but that's a big NO from me. I couldn't get rid of the boys I think chicken keeping is way more contagious than swine flu and the symptoms only get worse with no signs of recovery. Cooks
welcome back Yes the smileys freaked me out for ages, but I think they hypnotised me into using them!
beulah59
I'm a newbie, so it's good to hear how you've been getting on. What version of Panacur ... the paste? Or can you get it as granules? And what dose did you use? And where do you get the Panacur and Ivermectin? Thanks in advance for the info
xScrunchee
Thanks for the welcome backs I used the Panacur paste for dogs and cats and puppies and kittens, it is quite strong at 18.5% but I was told by a vet to use it on my tortoise hatchling (She was only about 20g at the time) and it is safe for puppies and kittens so I had no worries about using it on the hens providing the eggs are not to be eaten for a week or so after the treatment is finished. I got it from here and the delivery is super fast...........http://www.paws247.com/index.php I weighed the girls and gave 1ml for every Kg so each of my girls had around 2ml each and then 2ml each after 7 days. The Ivermectin I get from Ebay. Once again I use one that other people say is too strong at 0.8% yet I have read that loads of chicken keepers have used this one for years with no trouble. Each hen has 4 drops. They have never had lice or mites and are all healthy and well I think that 4 drops of a 0.8% one is no different to loads of drops of a weaker solution. The 0.1% one needs something like 32 drops per hen going on the dosage of 8 drops per 500g. Much easier to use 4 drops of 0.8% than 32 drops of 0.1%. Plus the one I use is safe for guinea pigs and our guineas are much smaller than the hens so I can't be too wrong. Hope that helps-if you can keep your eyes open after reading my waffling.
