Lanky tomatoes outgrown window!

Recommended Posts

I'm fairly new to this growing stuff shenanigans so seem to be in a constant state of bafflement with stuff - like keeping chickens really!

I have tomatoes growing on my windowsil at work, but they've shot up like "Ooops, word censored!"ody's business and have now reached the top of the window - about 4'6" and have just started to flower right at the top. Will they be okay just left, with the flowers appearing above the level of the window and out the sun? Or should I try and put the pots on something lower down so the flowers/tomatoes would be in the sun but the bottom of the plant wouldn't be?

Sorry if this is a daft question!

pinch the growing tip out if there to tall about one or 2 leaves above the flowers. they've gone lanky due to the light been from one side you could also let a few side shoot grow until they have a truss of flowers then stop them in the same way as for the flowers been above the window it don't reallt mater toms will ripen in the dark

You can always pinch the tops out, pop them in compost and they will flower nearer the bottom now that they have started to flower anyway. Or you can wait for a side shoot to do they same. They don't need fancy treatment just poke them in the dirt (they will look sad for a couple of days and hey presto more toms) and keep them moist until they root. Or stick the pricked out bits in a jar so you can see the roots form and then pot them up. Hope the fruits of your labour taste nice! :D
