Plum
Hi folks, What is the difference between chick crumb and layers apart from the fact it looks different. I bought some assuming it didn't have laying stimulants for my Sparrow to discourage egg formation am I going to be doing her any harm or is it a good idea? Egluntyne
It has less calcium and more protein, to cater for the needs of the growing chick. Also it might be medicated with a coccidostat, which shouldn't be given to adult hens. Best check that. If you want to cut down her laying, I'd get some wheat from the feed suppler, or give her weetabix and water for a few days.
Plum
Thanks Egluntine, I don't want to harm her. I bought the crumb in a small plastic bag from pet shop so it doesn't have contents on it. I was worried she wouldn't get trace elements from weetabix and wheat but she has access to layers pellets all day. I'll give her wheat and weetabix in the morning while others are in the nest box to cut down the pellets she has.
