Composting - Poop and Aubiose

Recommended Posts

Since getting my Cube one week ago I have also bought a composter... one of the large plastic ones that looks like a Dalek...

The main reason for getting the composter was to dispose of the poop and aubiose from the nesting box and base of the cube...

Does anyone else compost their chicken poop and aubiose and what other stuff should I add to get the balance right?

Thanks

I think that's right, but you'll probably want some vegetable waste in there as well. I put grass clippings in too, and kitchen waste - mainly banana skins and teabags, as the chooks eat most of my other veg s"Ooops, word censored!"s. It makes absolutely wonderful compost.

We don't have much green, so I do a swap with my Dad.

One bag of "raw" hemcore/chicken poo, for one bag of grass clippings!

He uses the raw chicken poo on his roses, which can take it, and I can mix up the grass clippings in my compost bin :D

Keep stirring it as well - I regularly empty mine, stir it all up, and put it back in again. Composts much quicker.

Chooks are a great help at the stirring process....... :D:liar:

Thanks for the advice folks!

Put my first stuff in the composter today... some chicken poop, aubiose, some pea shucks and some radishes stalks that the chickens had stripped the leaves from! It's exciting stuff is composting!
