4m x 3m Omlet pen, cube, new auto door still boxed and coop light

I have 11 lovelies and use 2 of these

 

 

they take 2 big compost scoops each and usually last the day.

 

However, now they are only lasting until lunch time

 

Now do I refill them or leave them to scratch about and find stuff for themselves.

 

They do get pellet porridge later in the day

Keep them filled; they will only eat what they need and pellets alone won't make them fat.

 

I take it that they are already laying?

Oh yes, they are a year old now and 5-7 eggs a day

 

will go and re fill one of them - lucky girls

Mine do that when I change their feed - I tend to alternate between pellets and mash. It's as if they are saying 'Mmmm, yummy; new food, let's scoff it'!

I'd keep them filled too.

 

Are you certain that other animals/birds aren't helping themselves without being invited.

 

How big is a compost scoop?

well have put some food into a spare grub so will see how long that lasts... I'm wondering if they prefer this brand of bokashi

I recently changed my girls from the standard Allan and Page Layers Pellets to the Ex Batts range (pending the arrival of my ex batts) and they are eating LOADS more, and 4 haven't started to lay yet

 

My logic is, I would rather them tank up on layers pellets/mash than treats, so if they keep eating, I keep filling

I have found exactly the same thing since moving onto the Ex-batt stuff. I will test the theory shortly as my supplier was all out of the Ex/batt feed so purchased the A&P layers pellets instead.

 

Even my growers seem to be eating loads....i was thinking worms but they have all been wormed within the last three weeks so perhaps it is the weather or something? Or maybe it is the competition factor as I am in the middle of two sets of introductions
