Purplemaniacs
Does anyone know if you need to report that you have had your driving licence stolen. ED has gone to the seaside for the day with her children and has realised someone has stolen her purse with bank card and driving licence in it. She is sorting out the bank card but I'm not sure what you do about the driving licence, and I thought someone on here would be sure to know the answer Thanks Chrissie
Lewis
Have a look at the Direct Gov website. I don't think they can 'cancel' it, but you do need to get a new one.
PurpleTree
Had a look on the DVLA website, it gives info on how to replace your driving licence if it's been stolen, not whether you have to report it. I guess they make a record of it when you a apply for a replacement one. It costs £20 though bit annoying as it's been stolen. http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/DriverLicensing/NeedANewOrUpdatedLicence/DG_4022085
Happy-Mama
Hi, sorry to hear about your daughters purse, that's a horrible thing to happen. If you go to the post office and get a form to get a new license there is a box to tick for lost/stolen license as the reason for requiring a replacement. You might be able to apply online I'm not sure though.

Purplemaniacs
Hi all thank you for your replies I will pass on the information to her. I knew you would know the answer Yes it rather spoils a day at the seaside . Thanks again Chrissie
Olly
I'm assuming this was a new 'photo licence' and so not as easy to use for forgery as the old licences, but keep an eye out because whoever stole it will probably try to use it as supporting ID for loans etc. Unfortunately most providers don't look very closely at the ID they receive. I had an old-style licence stolen a few years ago together with my bank card (yes, I know - should never have kept them in the same place ... ) and it enabled the thieves to open numerous credit accounts. You may find mobile phone contracts, Argos account details etc. arriving in the post - I would strongly advise that she reports it to the police, even though it's long gone, because if you get any post like this and ring them up to tell them it's fraudulent, they will ask for the police report number. Purplemaniacs
Thank you Olly for the advice, she has reported it to the police and has been given a number. I was not aware that you should not keep bank card and driving licence together, I keep them in my handbag, perhaps I should have a rethink Chrissie
Olly
Well in theory with the new pink photocard licences, it shouldn't be possible for anyone else to use it .... only the picture on mine is nothing like me, and as noted above, cashiers etc. rarely look closely at them anyway! With the old green licences, which probably a lot of people still have, there's no ID and anyone could use it. Glad to hear she's got the police report, I had no difficulty in getting the agreements cancelled once I gave that over and they will put a CIFAS marker on so that it doesn't affect her credit rating. I think the people who stole my card opened six different mobile phone accounts, an Argos credit account, a Currys account (on both of which they bought electrical goods up to the limit), and managed to use the card at Marks & Spencers even after it had been cancelled. That is quite scary that people can do all that Chrissie
