Luvachicken
For our new chicken play area we have bought the girls some new turf which we intended to cover in chicken wire so they couldn't destroy it all so quickly, but thinking back we put the same wire on the bottom of the rabbit runs and it seemed to make their little feet sore. Would it do the same to the chickens or are their feet a lot tougher ?
Gamebird
Scratching around in dirt and grass is a chicken's main occupation so they would definitely get sore feet and nails if they tried doing it over chicken wire. It would be kinder to have slabs with a thick layer of bedding on top for them to scratch about in.
Egluntyne
I agree....scratching for food is what hens do, and wire can cause damage to their claws, I'd put them on slabs with Aubiose to rootle about in. Turf will last 5 minutes.
Luvachicken
Oh well, at least we can get a refund on the chicken wire Do you think we could use the soft fruit netting instead ?
Woodcat
you might find that they get tangled in soft netting mine did when i used it to net plants
