katieD
hi was hunting on ebay and found a magnetic device that apparently sexes not only chicks but eggs before incubation? its a magnet that swings round or forward depending on the sex- interested if anyone has tried these? they sound a bit weird if you ask me would be cool though if they worked- then people could hatch eggs without worrying about boys! too good to be true i think
Egluntyne
Just as easy, and as accurate to swing a pin tied to a ribbon over the eggs, I imagine.
Redwing
There have been a couple of posts about them on the Practical Poultry and Bluelaced forums recently but as someone quite rationally pointed out; large scale breeders employ people who have had five years training to be an expert chicken sexer and those people are paid decent money, if a magnet on a bit of string did the job then there would be no reason to employ them! Patricia W
An experienced breeder told me that there are more boys in earlier than later hatches. Something about Mother Nature making sure there are enough males in the gene pool. Anyone noticed this? Tricia
laurmurf
sounds like the chicken equivalent of dangling a wedding ring over a pregnant bump
