Space Chick
Well I brought home my beautiful ex batts yesterday. They are already settling in well, but its not plain sailing. Polly has been bullying the other 2 a bit, we watched carefully to see it didn't get out of hand. Sadly she took things too far and really started attacking poor Barbara, drawing blood. Thankfully we'd had the good sense to have bumper bits and violet spray on stand by (since we got the Wernlas girls) and today we have needed to use them. I don't blame Polly, poor darling has had a horrible life to date, but it was terrible to see Polly has now had a bumper bit fitted (first time we'd done one, and was fairly straight forward as a 2 person job) and poor Barbara has needed violet spray on her comb and bald back. In all honestly though, I think she was more shaken by being handled and sprayed than she was by being attacked, as once they were bumper bitted and sprayed they huddled together in the corner I also took the opportunity to check Ace over and she seems fine, she's pecking at her legs a lot but I can't see signs of scaly leg mite, I'll keep watching her. My existing girls are not too interested, Rose is showing the most interest and has been facing up to Ace at the divide. OH is gutted though, as he wanted to take loads of photos of them today, so we could get some good before pictures to plot their progress over time, and now we have a bumper bitted girl, a purple girl and a bemused virtually oven ready girl Edited August 23, 2009 by Guest
Scramble
Aw, Debs I don't know what to say really, many ((hugs)) You can still take pictures, they'll be even more transformed when you compare at a later date I hope that everything settles down soon. Are you planning on putting them in with the others? If so, good luck with the introductions, you managed them well before xxx
Space Chick
We will be introducing them, but are planning to take the introductions really slowly. Theres no hurry, so if it takes a few months then so be it They can see each other at the moment which is important.

Egluntyne
Looks OK...what size is it? 25mm?
Space Chick
Yes its 25mm, I checked the FAQ's before fitting and it looks right based on Gallinas picture. Will she just need practice at eating with it on?
Sarahsausage
Sorry to sound dim, but what is the bumper bit for? I bet that was difficult to fit!
Space Chick
The bumper bit stops her from pecking the other girls, she bled Barbara yesterday. She can still eat and drink fine though.
sandyhas3chucks
personally I would use a different type of feeder than th one on the picture. In order to grab mouth fulls of mash with that on she will need space to get it and her beak well into a deep pilel
Space Chick
Thanks Sandy, she seems to be managing OK bit I was concerned. I think I will try another feeder
Egluntyne
Will she just need practice at eating with it on? Yes. It will lake a day or two, but they soon get the hang of it.
Space Chick
She's been managing much better today, and has scoffed some mealworms too Its been a fabulous day today as all 3 of the ex batts have been scratching around the run and behaving like chickens should
