I want some Roman Blinds and have some fabric I like so I don't want to buy ready-made. Has anyone made any before? If so, did you get a kit and if so, where from?

 

Everyone here is so knowledgeable, I'm sure there are dozens of Roman Blind makers out there!

Are they the ones that fold up as they rise? If so, yes I've made them, years ago! You can buy kits of the string and hoopy things. They are very easy to make. In fact I'm planning one for the boys room I've just redecorated.

Yes, they are the ones. I keep looking at kits for the fitting but there is too much choice! Maybe I'll just dive in and have a go - as you say, they seem very simple.

Fairly straight-forward as long as you keep all your stitching lines straight and the tape loops level. Make pockets for a piece of wood at the top (to attach to wall or window frame) and the bottom (for dowel or thin, narrow piece of wood). You will also need lots of cord, eye hooks and a cleat.

I've made them before and they are easy if you follow Vivihen's advice as they look awful if you don't get your lines dead straight and your loops nicely lined up. If you take your time and measure everything carefully, they look fab and are well worth the effort.
