Ritchie the cockerel has a new home!!

Recommended Posts

3 weeks ago one of my new araucana x chicks turned out to be a cockerel. He has been crowing every morning since and although my neighbours have said they don't mind us keeping a cockerel he has been making me quite anxious :anxious:

Its not the noise that's the problem (he crows between 7am-7:45am and is then quiet all day) its more the worry of him being aggresive to the hens -one of my hens Queenie is disabled and could be a potential target for bullying, luckily the other hens don't bully her at all and she often enjoys a dustbath with Endora (top hen) :)

I was going to try and keep Ritchie (keeping him away from Queenie) but my sister's best friend who lives on a lovely big farm has 9 hens and has been looking for a cockerel. I will be sad to see him go :( but I think this is the best option for everyone as I never intended on keeping a cockerel and Ritchie will have a great life on the farm. He will be free ranging every day with 9 lovely hens, will be well looked after and I will be able to go and visit :)

Lucky you, it sounds like a really good solution. I'm sure he will be very happy with all those girlies!

I've been trying to rehome a gold silkie cockerel without any luck so far :( - it's really hard when they are nice boys and you want to find a nice home for them.
