When will my girls start moulting?

 

They are about 8/9months old now!

 

When they do start, do i need to put anything like a hot water bottle (covered)in with them to keep em warm?

Hi there!

 

Mine didn't moult at all in their first year and are now moulting at around their second birthday.

 

I had been told they would moult at around the anniversary of their first egg but that didn't happen with my girls

One of ours has been gently moulting over the last month and the other looks like she' beginning to do the same. They're both 20 months old.

Our girls are now 6 months old and they do look a little bit scruffy but I haven't really noticed any feather loss at the minute, they just look a bit dishevelled now and again.

I would like to get a few more chickens but as we are new to chicken keeping, I thought I would see them through their first moult and their first winter with just the two of them.

Are our girls too young to moult?

My girls must be around 18mths and I think 2 maybe beginning as they have either think patch on the neck or breast bone. Plus eggies are down, but not sure if thats the antibiotics
