Holiday!

Recommended Posts

Hi Omletteers

We might decide to go away on the weekend  so would be away Sat, Sun and Mon nights.

Is it ok to leave the Eglu door open? I think they'll have enough food and water etc and we might have next door pop over to collect the eggs, but I thought if we leave the door open then it's less to ask of the neighbours.

Any thoughts?

Hi there

When we frst left our chickens, we decided to leave the cube door open simply because of the reason you said about less responsibility & work for our neighbour. As I used to get up to slide open the cube door between 5.30am - 6am. Then I would pop out to close the door before bed. We compromised requesting her to pop round on a morning to ensure they're water supply was fresh etc etc & if she had time i would be fantastic if she could have her evening coffee with them allowing them to free range a little before beddy byes. ( she's a fab neighbour as she loves the chickens & is now quite happy for them to range then put them away even though a few of the girls decide to give her a few challenges:)

The chickens were fine & actually I now leave their cube door open. .. hmmm which must change before complacency becomes a huge regret as we have an OMLET run & also an additional one which weve tried to make fox proof but not sure if its 100%. For your wee break , in my humble opinion, if your run is secure & door closed, they should be absolutely fine.

Happy Hols & Happy Chook Sitting
