moving house - need advice

Recommended Posts

hi - currently have 4 chickens and a cube within a walk in run. We are moving house in about 5 weeks and new owners want cube and run. Am looking at buying just the eglu plus

long run as a temp measure so we have something to put them in until we get another cube and build another walk in secure area. Also on ebay the cube is quite scarce........ do you

really feel its big enough for 4 chickens to sleep in. It looks rather small, and our girls have

been rather spoilt i think. Anyway if you feel its ok i will get one, and sell on once we have

something more permanent.

Thanks for your views....

do they have to have the cube? couldn't you just take it with you? if they really want one they should buy one becuase you still want yours as you're prepared to buy a normal eglu and then replace it with a new cube! whats the point? you could leave them the run-walk thing and take the cube... do you have a run with the cube... or just the walk thing you bought... oh wait i think i see you point now... oops lol. you may now find what i have said a heap of rubbish :lol::wink::wink:

(cube green)(cube red)(cube pink)(cube blue)(cube purple)(cube orange)(cube lilac)

I think four would be fine in the Eglu for the short-term, it's more the run space that you would need to consider. If it's going to be for more than a couple of weeks, then I would definitely extend the Eglu run (you can often buy converters or extensions on here second-hand). A converter and extension should give you plenty for 4 chickens, I had three in an Eglu with just the converter.

I agree with Chickengirl and ness - take your cube and let the new house owners get their own. As for the run - perhaps someone on here who has converted to a walk-in-run has a spare cube run that they would lend/sell to you, or contact omlet where I'm sure they will sell you one.

IMHO it sounds like they are evicting your chickens and making a lot of trouble for you.

As I understand it, you've already got a run with your Cube - the plan here is that if you leave the Cube and run for the new owners (who presumably are compensating you for it, somewhere along the line!) then in due course once the hassles of moving are over, you can build a walk-in run for your hens.

I think your plan to get an Eglu is a sensible one - you can sell on the Eglu run, once your WIR is built (or keep it for introductions etc) and keep the Eglu to put inside your WIR. The only issue is that you'll need to extend the Eglu run pending the WIR being built, because as noted above, it won't be big enough for your girls - once they have a lovely big WIR, then the Eglu will be fine for sleeping accommodation.
