greenfreek
Hello all. Im new to this forum but looking to be an active member This is my first post. Im looking to get some ex-bats fairly soon. We're currently building a funky little hen house for them. I'm just a little concerned about my neighbours. I know the hens wont be making too much noise other than a little clucking but has anyone had any complaints for their neighbours at all? Griffin
I have to admit that my ex-batts are my noisiest egg announcers I love them to bits but do wish they could be a little less joyous over the event! Fortunately they are in honourable retirement and some lay just a couple of eggs a week and some not at all.
greenfreek
Thanks guys, Ive had read thru some other complaint posts on here and i think what I will do is speak to my neighbours that it would most affect and see if they'd have any problems first of all. I can always bribe them with eggs if i need to. Fingers crossed.
Ain't Nobody Here
Unfortunately, it seems to be pot luck whether you get a squarker or not . My older 3 are very quiet and only squark once a day if that and only for a couple of minutes. I have 2 new girls now and am praying they'll be just as quiet . simone
only have one neighbour, but you can hardly hear then just a lovely noise when laying and then can just about hear from house with the door open.
Space Chick
Mine have their noisy moments, it was just egg announcements, but now that the ex batts have learned how to use a nesting box we now have nesting box queue shouting However, my logic is, there is a dog that barks in our street virtually non stop morning, noon and night. He's kept us awake barking at 1am when his owners have not been in on several occasions. So, let the girls make a noise if they want to. They are only up when its light, they don't make a racket, but you can guarantee that they will be quiet during unsociable hours (well pretty much anyway - I didn't appreciate being woken up by Rose's egg announcement on Sunday at 8.30am ) I have also made the decision that if anyone does complain there will be no egg peace offerings, as once you give to someone, if word gets out everyone will be complaining to get free eggs If people want my girls eggs, they can buy them
