esta
One of my larger ladies named Bertha has an extremely swollen face. We left it for a bit and it seems to have gone down slightly but not much. Shes eating and drinking but I'm a little concerned. Anyone know what I should do next? Jools
It might be the reaction to a sting or bite, in which case it should go down on it's own. Or it could be an infection which may or may not need treatment. If you're worried, I'd give your vet a quick call for advice. One of my old ladies occasionally gets a swollen wattle. The first time it happened I took her to the vet who wasn't sure because it wasn't hot and there was no sign of pain. I came away with antibiotics and duly treated her. It went down after a couple of days, but it does come back every now and again. Strangely enough, it always disappears by itself after a day or two, so I just leave her now. Nowt so strange as chickens!
The Dogmother
This could be anything, including infected sinuses, but infectious coryza is one thing I'd worry about. Personally, I'd take her to the vet asap.
