Chicken bald back

Hello, This is a the bit of my garden we are sectioning off for the chickens.

 

 

I plan on having the hen house backing up against the shed with the run coming off goin to the right of the garden.

 

I know they'll like diggin around in the mud but I'm just wondering what they think of gravel?Any suggestions?

I'm pretty sure there are a few Omleteers with hens on gravel . I should think they'll be fine. Just be prepared to have gravel flying all over your garden once they get scratching .

 

Edit: a quick search on "gravel" in "Eglus, Cubes & Runs" brings up a few threads. Might give you some ideas .

Thats fine.

Its all graveled anyway. As long as it doesnt hit me hahaha

 

A friend just suggested they like grass too so i might get a rol of turf and plant it into the border for them and then leave some of it as just soil so they've got a mixture of all sorts.

My hens wander round on decking, a small patch of grass (about a square foot) and gravel. It is the larger sized gravel and they love kicking it all over routing for bugs etc. I also have left my magnolia tree in a plant pot on the decking that they enjoy playing in, thinking of getting them an apple tree for next summer

I would say as long as the gravel is plenty deep and there is good drainage under it you should be fine otherwise when you hose it down you will end up with that stinking mass!
