Professor the Dorking's intro

Recommended Posts

Hey

I promised Alison and Dave an update on how professor the Dorking who was looking for a new home recently was doing and I thought I’d put it up here for ease :)

I’m really impressed at how easy (touch wood) this intro is going when compared to the last single chook i did. We’ve had no real aggression from either side.

As when they were properly introduced on Friday there was no real aggression or fighting through the barrier when I got back from the omlet meet up on Saturday I let Prof out to have a free range with the two least aggressive of the big girls and the babies. I’ll be honest I was completely startled, there was a small amount of chasing of Prof when she got close but it wasn’t nasty chasing it was just “get out of my space” chasing. The only time she really got chased was when she went to peck one of the pekins and then she got chased all round the garden. This morning I let everyone have a potter around together and there has been almost no argy bargy at all. She seems to be settling into the pecking order at the bottom of the big girls and the top of the little ones with my pekin Petrova (who laid her first egg today  ) desperate to be best buddies.

I’m not nearly ready to let leave them on there own together or even shut them in supervised however I’m totally amazed at how good everyone is being.

So it’s been quite an eventful day here, my first bantam egg, Prof heading towards rapid integration and on a sadder note Alex is I believe egg bound so fingers crossed that she’s going to be ok. :?

Hey

I just thought I’d give a final update. Prof is now fully intergrated with the pekins and has been since two weeks and two days after her arrival by her own choice. She is second in command and it is hysterical to see her being bossed round by her mate Petrova who is about ¼ the size of her. She is also becoming an accomplice in Petrova’s only goal in life which is to lay her egg in my bed. One which I’m sure you can imagine I am doing everything in my power to prevent but I have yet to succeed.

Prof really seems to have blossomed into the most delightful friendly chicken whose current party piece is to jump up on your arm for treats. The only time she tried to pull feathers she tried it on Petrova who jumped up and down on her back screaming which seems to have solved the problem. Thank you so much for letting me have her Dave and Alison I’m very grateful
