egbert
Hi, I have been advised to use Avipro (alongside Citricidal) to clear up some sneezing in my new chickens and wanted to ask how you all administer it? The dose suggests 1 scoop per 200ml of water, but this seems to be very wasteful when replacing the water (in a glug) every other day. I have just started a week's course of Flubenvet as a precaution, will the Avipro be OK to use at the same time? All experience gratefully received! Chucky Mama
It is never a good idea to bombard the system with too many medications at once but I don't think the combination of these 2 should cause a problem.
egbert
Thanks for the reply. I would still like to know how others use Avipro and if it is as wasteful as it seems. Do people dissolve it in water and then throw away what has not been consumed at the end of the day, or do you use another method?
Redwing
I dosing with Avipro I use a smaller drinker so as to minimise waste and as long as the water isnt contaminated I let it go over to the next day too
Egluntyne
I use a smaller drinker too, as the Avipro is costly.
egbert
What type of drinkers do you use and where did you get them from? I think it would be a very good idea for me to do the same - glad I asked the question now!
Redwing
Normally I use Glugs or gravity drinkers but when using Avipro I tend to use this sort of thing http://www.regencypoultry.com/cagecups/galleypots.htm and put them high enough so things dont get kicked in to them! I mst admit that I have never tried avipro with more than one or two chooks or one set of chicks, you would need to ensure you refill often enough otherwise as several chickens will drink an awful lot of water in a day These are also good but again will need close monitoring http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bottle-Holder-Poultry-Drinker-Pet-automatic-Water-Quail_W0QQitemZ220466835399QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Pet_Supplies_Birds?hash=item3354d8efc7&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 Alternatively simply fill up their normal water container to a lower level than normal
egbert
Thanks Tasha! The large galley pots look excellent and I think I will get some of those, whereas the bottle holder looks a little tricky, especially as the ebay pictures seem to show quite a lot of water on the floor! For the time being, I have just made up one litre of water in the glug and will see how that goes.
The Dogmother
Avipro is a feed supplement rather than a medication. Brilliant stuff! I use it in water, but it is easily soluble and can be mixed into wet mash as well. You don't need to be strict about the amount you add to the water - I just use a pinch. My girls use bunny water bottles.
