Hi,

 

I just had 3 chicks that hatch...2 of them have 3 toes whereas another one has 4 toes and sort of a smaller one alongside it...Is this normal?

Silkies have five toes which is completely normal

but so then my other two...whats wrng with them!? They were described as silkiexfrizzles...does that mean its cross beeded between the two?

So the other two could be layed by a frizzle hen and the one with 5 toes was layed by a silkie?

I'm not very good with genetics so am not sure who was laid by what breed but as a rule something that is a high percentage silkie will have black skin and five toes, on the others I am guessing the silkie gene was not as strong

 

For example if the silkie egg was laid by a silkie and has a silkie cross dad there is a high percentage of silkie in there, if the other two were laid by a frizzle and had the same silkie cross dad then they will be less silkie than the first chick - does that make sense?

Perfect sense...the chick with 5 toes has black skin...worries over

Yes. So they will have inherited the dominant trait.

Well it is very fluffy.

 

im surprised how friendly they are. i mean the silkiexfrizzle always jumps around and then sleeps and then at the end of the day they all love to sit on my hand and be stroked but during the day they are nutters!
