Orange foamy poo? Flubenvet for free-rangers help please!

Recommended Posts

I just found an orange foamy poo which I gather means worms?

I have some Flubenvet 1% but the instructions say this should be added to a "complete feed" for seven days. The instructions don't give a dose per kilogram of chicken which would make life much simpler. I don't want to restrict my young chikkies to a run as they have been free for quite a while now and are very, very happy! I know exactly how much of the Grower's Pellets my girls eat because I have been weighing how much I am giving them, but I have no idea how much natural food they are picking up in the garden. I could just follow the instructions but then they could be getting only half the dose they really need. I'm sure I'm not the only one with this dilemma - anyone help out please? Should I just go out and buy Panacur?

I am going to work this out on the assumption that one chicken will eat 125g feed per day when no other feed is offered. This works out at 1.75kg per week for 2 chickens. The dose for 1.75kg feed is 5.25g. I will therefore add 5.25g Flubenvet to the 1.27 kg feed my girls are actually eating per week. Is that reasonable? My girls are eating just over 180g pellets per day between them.

I don't know about the foamy poo being an indication of worms but it is probably a good idea to do them anyway if you haven't wormed them for a while.

The instructions do say that the medicated feed should be given in exclusion to all other feed but to be honest many give it to free range chickens and leave them to free range during dosing. I do.

The dose is as you know 1 6g scoop per 2kg of feed, mix really well adding a small amount of oil if necessary to help it stick and making up more feed as necessary.
