Leicester_H
Omlet leaflet says fully grown chicken eats approx. 120g layers pellets per day – call this a unit of food. Omlet shop page says add 1 Tablespoon of garlic powder for each refill of feeder > Omlet leaflet says full feeder contains enough food for 2 chickens for 2 days (ie 4 units of food) which makes 1Tbs Garlic per 4 units of food. Omlet shop page says add 1/4 teaspoon of Chicken spice per 2 chickens (I assume per day – it doesn’t say ?) ie 1/8 ts per unit of food Omlet shop page says add Bokashi bran at rate of 5% of weight of food. So to mix up 2 weeks worth of food for 3 chickens (so don’t have to ‘mess around’ every day- its as easy to mix to a recipe as not as don't have to think about it) 3 chickens x 14 days = 42 units of food Layers pellets = 42 x 120 g = 5050 g (call it 5kg)Garlic powder = (42/4) = approx 10 Tbs – this seems an awful lot ?? Chicken Spice = (42 x 1/8 tsp) = 5 tsp – this seems quite a lot ?? lot more than I usually add Bokashi 5% of 5kg = 250g – again seems a lot I know these are all extra’s and its not an exact ‘science’ – but a. Is my understanding of recommended quantities correct ? b. do people add these quantities?
Patricia W
I buy the ex-bat food which has lots of goodies in it already. And add other things from time to time- when I remember! Tricia
Ain't Nobody Here
I half fill a big plastic box with pellets, chuck a bit of poultry spice, garlic powder and bokashi in, fill the rest up with pellets, top up with more of the above and stir . "Exact science" it isn't . I don't think it matters too much. Just put in what you feel is a good quantity without using too much and costing yourself a fortune . beulah59
I put four scoops of mash, one scoop of BWHT ex-batt mash, a teaspoon of garlic, a teaspoon of poultry spice, a good sprinkle of ground egg shell, a handful of mixed grit and about half a scoop of diatom ... which lasts about four days for my four ex-batts. Goodness knows what I'll do when it's time to worm them ... the thought of measuring it all out carefully to get the right does of Flubenvet *doh*
Ain't Nobody Here
I've just mixed my first ever batch of pellets plus Flubenvet. I dispensed with all the extras and just used pellets alone. Made it quite easy to measure out . I reckon a week off the supplements won't do any harm.
