I have never grown carrots successfully in London soil - too boggy. So put some sand and grow bag compost in a pot and wacked in some seed and waited. Yesterday OH watched as I attempted to pull one out and said " theres nothing there" and lo and behold a lovely big 6inch carrot. Oh ye of little faith. I will try and photograph it before eating. next year plan to get a big planter and do some. feeling smug

Well done . I've grown carrots for the first time ever this year too . It's just brilliant when you pull and a proper real live carrot comes up . (Somehow I don't expect it .)

And they taste SOOO much better then shop bought ones!!

 

I have tried growing them in tubs before - and they have always failed me... But this year, as a last ditch attempt, I grew them in the ground. Bingo! Weren't quite 6 inches. but tasty none the less!!
