fluffyknickers
Hello all, anyone make meat loaf? What's it like? How easy is it and any good recipes? Thanks Michelle
redhotchick
My mum makes lovely meatloaf! She sometimes uses turkey mince, or pork? She has probably done both! I'm sure she doesn't follow a recipe, and neither do I! If you are unsure about the seasonings, fry a tablespoon of the mixture off and taste before baking in the oven. Here's a link to a recipe that I found on line. Soaking the breadcrumbs in milk gives a lighter meatloaf. Sometimes I do this sometimes I don't. Add or omit flavourings according to your personal taste (and what you have in the cupboard) http://www.channel4.com/food/recipes/popular-ingredients/beef/meatloaf-recipe_p_1.html My mum used to make a sweet/spicy tomato sauce to go with it. Meatloaf left to go cold and chilled can be sliced and used as delicious sandwich meat. Essentially 700g of mince 250g of breadcrumbs and various veg/seasoning cooked in the oven in a 2lb loaf tin using a bain marie takes about 1 and a half hours at 160 centigrade / gas mark 3. You may need to put some foil on top if it looks like it is browning too soon. I'm sure my mum never used a bain marie
