Margalot Posted September 28, 2009 Share Posted September 28, 2009 I have just booked tickets to see Stephen K Amos as a xmas pressie for my OH. I wondered if anyone has seen his tour this year? I am also taking our 12 and 14 years old with us, We are quite liberal and let then watch comedians at home like Michael Macintyre, Peter Kay etc, so not too worried,(and I am sure they have heard it all online and at school etc!) but the theatre has advised a 16 yr age recommendation to me but said they will let us in. Has any one seen him this year and could reassure me that I am not going to be covering their ears!!! Our 12yr old has a wicked sense of humour and it will be the first time they have seen comedy live, so really looking forward to it!! My eldest girls boyfriend went, & got him to sign his brochure for my daughter - & its just a little bit naughty (OK, its very rude indeed!) C&T Posted September 28, 2009 Share Posted September 28, 2009 Comedians are much much "bluer" on the stage then they are on TV - even the late night stuff on channel 4!! They can't get away with it on the TV - and it is not just the language, but the inuendo and references used and even "acting" etc. Be prepared for lots of questions from your children by the end! I remember years ago going to see Lenny Henry with my parents and Sister. We must have been both in our late teens - but it was slightly uncomfortable watching some of his stuff sitting with our parents!! My Sister and I weren't completely naive, but we certainly learnt lots that night too!! Another family had taken their young child with them (around 10/12?) and Lenny ripped them apart. And to be honest, the show was really not suitable for him - the parents obviously thought the style of humour would be similar to what Lenny did on the TV, and ignored the age recomendation for the show (16). Have not seen him live but would imagine that it would be quite blue. Have recently seen Rhod Gilbert and Rich Hall live, both of which are quite tame on tv, but the shows were definately not suitable for children, I would not have taken anyone under 16. There was a 12 year old in the Rhod Gilbert show and he pointed out to the parents, once he had realised he was there, that the show was not suitable but that he had to leave it up to the parents as the venue had neglected to advertise the age restriction. iar fach goch Posted September 29, 2009 Share Posted September 29, 2009 I know, the thought of being a target is scarier than tne questions you'd get after the children saw the show. My friend was offered free front row tickets to see Rob Brydon but passed for fear of being targeted. There were two empty front seats in the show and Rob invited someone from the rubbish seats to come down, but of course while they made their way down he made two other members of the audience take the seats!
