I have just posted a similar question re the chickens but can anyone tell me how ducks cope through the winter?

 

The aylesbury is such a greedy guts, but will he need more food through the winter months?

 

Im guessing their feathers will give them plenty of insulation and although their shed is draft proof and cozy would they need any additional heat source?

Hi ducks dont need any other heat source in the winter than their normal bedding they tend to eat more mine still swim round their pond with lumps of ice in it .

I second that mine use to stand on the ice wondering where the pond had gone!

 

They are so fatty they will be fine, just need to keep the drinking water going etc..

 

No duvets required

Same here - just make sure you will be able to provide them with water when it's really icy.

 

We put some extra straw in the duckhouse but they don't really need it.

ah thanks guys. i picked the aylesbury up tonight (nearly put my back out)

 

his feathers are so dense. i'll make sure they get some extra food, just gota watch him though because he's so gorgeous and its so easy to over feed him
